koltreg asked: After reading the actual comic that inspired it and then the original post, it looks like #FIRERICKREMENDER was more about trying the OP to get a writer they didn't like fired by lying and coopting it as a rape/sex/feminist issue, which it was not. I think it sucks because the discussions they claimed that validated their treatment of Remender, about sex/sexism in comics, need to happen, but telling lies and trying to get a guy fired when he did nothing wrong here is wack as hell.

I would agree with that.

Brevoort, did you read the original post? What is wrong with you?

Same thing I just tweeted to Dan Slott:

“If you tell female comic fans they’re LYING when they misinterpret a scene you think is clear, you’re part of the problem.”

Continuing this because I’m too livid to sleep.

The #firerickremender OP has received violence/rape threats for her posts, which IS a rape/sex/feminist issue (not co-opted). By agreeing with this bullshit that she “lied” - and that the only gender/racial issue with Remender’s Marvel output is this single incident - you’re contributing to the mindset that what does and does not constitute a “sexism problem” gets determined by white dudes who read and run comics.

It doesn’t just count when it happens to a respected female comics journalist, or when the Executive Editor of Marvel says it does. And it doesn’t just count only if the entire argument is cogent and perfectly reasoned.

Now if the OP “lied”, how the hell would she think that would result in a successful campaign for Remender’s firing? How does that make any sense? Unless she thought it was ambiguous enough that even his editors would be confused? But if it was that ambiguous isn’t it WAY MORE LIKELY that the OP was actually, legitimately, TRUTHFULLY confused about a much-maligned creator’s intentions?

This has gone so far off the rails, with so much wagon-circling, mansplaning and descent into threats of violence, that we are way beyond OP’s incorrect original premise. Look deeper. Don’t be the problem.
